Job Title: Head of IT Services Company Name: Met Office
Steve Foreman is the Head of IT Services at the Met Office.
A Maths graduate, Steves joined the Met Office as a research scientist working on improving the techniques used to create weather forecasts and in doing so used one of the worlds first supercomputers. After a short period actually forecasting the weather, Steve returned to research to work in climate modelling, specialising in the interaction between the atmosphere and ocean. Building on the Met Offices strength in transferring skills between weather forecasting and climate modelling, Steve then introduced the Met Offices first ocean forecasting system. Moving from using IT to providing it, Steve is now responsible for the operation of the whole of the Met Offices IT systems, from phones to supercomputers, and, reflecting the international dependencies of weather forecasting, sits on several international committees that are planning the future of weather forecasting and the IT to support it.
