Denise Plumpton
Job Title: Director of Information Company Name: Highways Agency
Denise started her career as an operational research analyst, moving to the software and services company, Istel where she held a variety of roles. In 1989 she joined Powergen, initially as IT commercial manager, becoming head of Powergens Management Consutlancy Group, advising, assisting and supporting the company in business improvement initiatives. She was promoted to IT director in 1996, overseeing the merger of Powergens IT department with the IT team supporting East Midlands Electricity, mirroring the merger of the two companies in 1998. Denise later became IT Director of TNT UK Limited, a post she held for four years. During that time, TNT UK became recognised as a leader in customer service, utilising emerging technologies for business and customer benefit. She won the Motor Transport Award for Best Use of Internet/e-Commerce in 2003 reflecting the services offered by TNT to its customers and its use of e-commerce for its own operations. Following a period as IT Director with British mobile phone company, Sendo, Denise joined the Highways Agency in January 2005 as Director of Information. Her primary focus has been the development and implementation of the Agencys Information Strategy, with the launch of a dedicated Traffic Radio service and enhanced travel information to customers. Denise has a passion for change management and delights in delivering significant business benefits as a result. She has worked extensively at Board level and across a number of sectors. She recognises the importance of building business confidence and securing the commitment of staff to make change happen. Denise is also a non-executive Director of the Heart of Birmingham Primary Care Trust and is a member of the Strategy Board of IT user group The Corporate IT Forum (Tif).
